I'm all ready to start moulding up my sculpts, I thought I'd start with an easy one which would be the leg as it doesn't need to be clayed up, which is nice.
I started with drilling a small hole in a piece of wood, then with this I hammered a piece of K+S into it.
This was to enable me to slot my leg (not mine, the sculpts) in to the K+S and it would stand up right and flush to the base of the wood like so...
As you may see there's another K+S next to it, this was a mistake by me as I didn't put this K+S far enough in to the wood, and I couldn't remove it so now it's used as a visual representation of how the leg is standing.
Next step was to box the sculpt in. I did this with foam board and hot glued around the edges to keep the plaster from running everywhere.
Once I was happy with how the box was looking I then poured in my first half of plaster.
It worked! I coould only pour up to the top of the leg due to the angle top of the leg. This meant it had to be a 2 part mould and not a 1 part.
This was now done, therefore the next part is to brush vaseline on to the top of the plaster ready for the second half.
The second half came out nice. Although with no 'keys' in the firs part of the mould it would make aligning the 2 halves together quite difficult, therefore before opening I drew registration lines and circles to ensure they meet correctly when closed.
